LAUNCHING OF MOBILE POSITIONING SYSTEM (MPS)
A co-operation agreement between Estonian Mobile Telephone Company
Ltd (EMT), a subsidiary of Estonian telecom Ltd, and Ericsson has
been signed in Geneva today that enables EMT to become the World's
first operator who starts offering based Ericsson Mobile Positioning
System services.
First services being offered are those that position emergency calls
originated from mobile phones to '112' rescue centres.
Estonian Mobile Telephone Company chose Ericsson as the system
provider because MPS can position all GSM subscribers independent of
phone or SIM card types.
Total cost of the project turns out in process of fixing technical
solutions. Approximate cost is about 13-15 million EEK, up to half
of which will be financed by EMT. According to the agreement with
Ericsson, payments of EMT are scheduled and depend on the number of
customers of the new service and growth of consumed volumes.
