COMMENTARY TO THE PROFIT FORECAST OF EESTI TELEFON, PUBLISHED IN 

“ÄRIPÄEV”

 

In the March 24 article of Äripäev, "Eesti Telefon stresses on profit", 

the journalist Andres Reimer gives false information about the profit 

forecast of AS Eesti Telefon. The published figure for profit forecast, 

384 million EEK, is the newspaper’s speculation, and does not 

correspond with the actual profit forecast of the company.

 

Furthermore, the following Äripäev’s allegation regarding the call 

starting fee planned by Eesti Telefon: "…increases its profit to more 

than one million EEK per day …", is also untrue and strongly 

overstated.

 

We hereby announce that Eesti Telefon will not publish the company’s 

official profit forecast. As a reply to a journalist’s question on the 

press conference regarding this year’s trends, the managing director 

Jaan Männik stated that in 1999, the company expects to earn profit of 

equal or a little above (due to increase in sales) the respective 

figure of 1998.
