On  August  26,  2004  JSC "Liepājas metalurgs"  is planning to sign an

agreement  with  an Austrian company "VAI Pomini" and a Russian company

"GIPROMEZ"  about  launching a large-scale modernisation project of the

steel  production unit starting with September. The Russian specialists

will  do  the  technical  design,  while the Austrians will develop the

modernisation   project,   order   and   install   the  equipment.  The

modernisation  is  expected to increase the company output and quality,

and improve competitive ability.
