JSC  "Ventspils  nafta"  has  published already its fifth Environmental

Report,  covering  the  period  between  summers  of 2002 and 2003. The

company environment and

quality policy voices that full compliance with environmental standards

is of equal importance with providing services in a quality meeting the

international standards.

Producing  a  safety  report in compliance with Latvian legislation and

SEVESO  II was the key project in 2002. The report includes information

on safety systems

implemented   in   the   company,  the  accident  preparedness  system,

assessment  of  potential  damage  caused by an accident, technological

processes and equipment etc.

JSC "Ventspils nafta" is the first company in Latvia to release reports

of this type.

In  the  spring  of 2002 the company received an environment protection

licence  for  reloading  crude oil from rail. In 2003 "Ventspils nafta"

continues to implement the

environment  protection  measures  initiated  in the previous years, in

order  to  reduce  the  floating  oil  product  layer  in water and the

pollution of soil near the quays.

JSC  "Ventspils nafta" current environmental costs in 2002 were LVL 2.3

million,  whereas  capital investment in environment protection was LVL

131.4 thousand.
