EMT INTRODUCES WAP SERVICE



Today AS Eesti Mobiiltelefon (EMT), a subsidiary of 

AS Eesti Telekom, will introduce a WAP 

(wireless application protocol) service for commercial 

use by its contractual clients. WAP offers the possibility 

of using Internet services through a mobile telephone. 

In contrast to the WAP solutions that have thus far been 

presented in Estonia, EMT WAP offers many more options. 

Hence it is possible to tap into information services 

based on Infosõnum 700 [Information message 700] – foreign 

currency exchange rates and share prices, opportunities 

for spending leisure time, weather reports, etc. 

In co-operation with TEA publishers, we offer a 

Lexicon of Foreign Words providing 

Estonian counterparts of foreign words. With Saldoinfo 

[Balance information], a client can obtain an overview 

of his account's standing. EMT clients can also read 

their e-mail regardless of their Internet service provider, 

and use a search motor to find public telephone numbers 

of private individuals who are clients of EMT. The address 

of the home page of EMT WAP is wap.emt.ee, and the 

dial-in number is +372 50 96 096, which can also be used 

from abroad in the event that EMT's roaming partner permits 

the transmission of the caller's telephone number to Estonia. 

As of April 1, EMT services were used by 259,000 people, 

182,000 of whom were contractual clients and 

77,000 were users of the pre-paid Simpel call card.
