COMMENTARY TO FINANCIAL RESULTS
COMMENTARY TO FINANCIAL RESULTS, Q1 2000
Sales results
In Q1 2000 Saku Õlletehas sold a total of 9.4 million liters of beverages,
providing 5% annual increase.
Compared to Q1 1999, the sales volume of Saku beers remained unchanged (8.2
liters). One of the most popular sales items in Q1 was mineral water Vichy
Classique. During Q1 the company sold 793 thousand liters of Vichy Classique,
which is 7% more than in Q1 1999.
After transfer of sales responsibility for Pepsi beverages to Saku Õlletehas
in the beginning of this year, the sales of Pepsi beverages have shown
increasing trend. In Q1 2000 total sales of Pepsi drinks stood at 336
thousand liters, which is 2.5 times more than in Q1 1999. Number of stores
selling Pepsi beverages in Estonia has increased 2.5 times.
Financial results
In Q1 2000 Saku Õlletehas group net sales amounted to EEK 132.2 mln,
providing EEK 12 mln or 10% annual increase. The group's expenses (EEK 130.3
mln) increased 14.4%.
The group's operating profit amounted to EEK 2.6 mln (65.8% decline from Q1
1999).
The group's Q1 net profit was EEK 3.3 mln (63.3% decline from Q1 1999).
The size of the company's profit has been affected to large extent by
transfer of sales responsibility for Pepsi beverages to Saku, and
expenditures made in Q1 2000 to develop Pepsi sales network.
Due to seasonal nature of beer industry, the first quarter of the year is
traditionally a slow season for beer producers. Thus also the share of Q1
financial results in the company's annual reports, is small.
