Audited* profit of Latvijas Unibanka (the Group) in the first six
months of 2002 was 5.409 million lats. Compared with the first six
months of 2001, when the Bank's profit was 5.312 million lats, in 2002
the Bank reported a 2% rise. In the reporting period the Group's
operating income reached 19.816 million lats, which is 12.7% or 2.226
million lats up from the result a year before. Return on assets and
return on equity are accordingly 1.7% and 18.5%.
President of Unibanka Andris Bērziņš, "We are satisfied with our
financial achievements. Growth of the key business indicators gives
evidence of the Bank's dynamic upswing. In this period we resumed
activities in the public securities market and completed several
information technologies projects. Several significant customer-related
projects and implementation of new services are underway."
Over the six months the Group's deposit portfolio had grown to
394.011 million lats as at June 30 and was up by 61.761 million lats
(+18.6%) compared with the end of the passed year.
In the accounting period the Group solidified its leading position
in the lending market - the volume of the disbursed loans enlarged by
70.408 million lats or 16.1% and was 507.990 (net) million lats at the
close of the period. In the same period the gross loan portfolio grew
by 16% and reached 518.2 million lats as at June 30. The total volume
of the issued loans guarantees the Bank 28% of the overall lending
market in Latvia.
In the six months of the year the Group's assets increased by
101.916 million lats and stood at 693.252 million lats as at June 30,
by 17.2% exceeding the volume as at December 31 2001. At the end of the
accounting period the Group's capital and reserves reached 61.664
million lats.
