2004 Brought Ventspils Nafta Termināls to Profit

The daughter company of the joint stock company Ventspils nafta
viz. Ventspils Nafta Termināls operated profitably in 2004.
This is confirmed by the audited however not yet approved
Annual Draft Report for 2004. Net turnover of Ventspils Nafta
Termināls in 2004 reached 16 million lats and profit after
tax made up of 0.7 million lats.

Olga Pētersone the Chairperson of the executive Board of
Ventspils Nafta emphasizes that some provisional financial
figures of Ventspils Nafta Termināls for 2004 would confirm
the ability of Ventspils Nafta Termināls to operate steadily
also in any situation when due to some circumstances beyond
their control the rights and possibilities of the Ventspils
Nafta Termināls to compete freely on the market by rendering
transit services as well as receiving crude oil deliveries
by pipeline, are violated. In 2004 all cargoes were delivered
to Ventspils Nafta Termināls only by railway; and, if compared
with 2002, when the crude oil was delivered to Ventspils by
pipeline, the volume of railway deliveries to the terminal
increased by 1.8 million tonnes or 28% in 2004. Totally
Ventspils Nafta Termināls handled 8.4 million tonnes of
crude oil and petroleum products in 2004; the total volume
is made up of 3.8 million tonnes of gas oil; two million
tonnes of crude oil as well as 2.6 million tonnes of gasoline
of various grades.

Ventspils Nafta Termināls that was extremely active and
managed to attract some additional cargoes for transhipment
in 2004 continued to increase the volumes of handled gasoline
by improving some facilities attached to loading berths
as well as offering their clientele some new services viz.
loading gasoline into tankers which loading capacity has been
up to 100.000 tdw. Right now this kind of services is not
being offered by any other terminal located in the eastern
part of the Baltic sea.

For the above reasons, the volume of gasoline handled by
Ventspils Nafta Termināls increased by 0.7 million tonnes
last year when compared with 2003; and – even by 1.2 million
tonnes when compared with 2002. This tendency has been
also observed within the first few months of 2005 as
the volume of gasoline handled by Ventspils Nafta
Termināls hit record high over one month viz.
0.4 million tonnes.

One of the chief events of 2004 worth mentioning were
also some new facilities that Ventspils Nafta Termināls
put into operation for loading/unloading of crude oil
and petroleum products’ deliveries by railway. The new
railway unloading facilities are the forth of this kind
on the territory of Ventspils Nafta Termināls and they
give a possibility of using the capacity of the terminal
up to its maximum; varying the range of the cargoes
handled; and avoiding any demurrage due to some
increased volumes of railway cargoes to be handled.

The new railway unloading facilities comply with the most
up-to-date engineering design; and their annual
capacity makes up of 4.5 million tonnes of crude
oil or 5.5 million tonnes of gas oil.
Their length is 402 meters; and they could
be used to unload 66 rail tank cars simultaneously.
