AS Kalev recruits 100 temporary employees for Christmas period

 

Confectionery factory AS Kalev has recruited around 100 people as 

temporary workforce to manufacture and package Christmas products. 

They will be guaranteed work for 2.5 months.



According to AS Kalev production director Mait Nilson, the company 

requires the additional hands on deck due to a significant growth 

in production volumes. “In the last quarter of every year, before 

Christmas, in only a little bit more than two months the company 

essentially has to produce sweets  the average amount of a three-month 

period,” explained Nilson. He added that Christmas production at 

AS Kalev started at the end of September and is taking place in two 

shifts, also on weekends, if necessary. “Besides ordinary production, 

the company has to produce around 500 tons of Christmas sweets,” said Nilson. 

 

According to Kalev personnel manager Asta Feldschmidt, the company has 

developed a set routine to find temps. “The personnel department has 

a database with data on employees who have previously helped us around 

Christmases. We first offer these people the opportunity, then use other 

channels for finding workers,” said Feldschmidt. This year, information 

was posted in company premises, on the homepage as well as in newspaper ads.

 

AS Kalev is one of Estonia’s largest food industries, employing 

nearly 800 people.
