Market maker is an Exchange member who has assumed a contractual obligation 

to display the buy and sell orders for a certain security in the order book 

throughout the Exchange trading day at least in the standard amount of that 

given security.

The maximum 10% spread quoted by the market maker helps also to avoid 

situations where an order inserted by an investor to the trading system 

might be executed at a price higher of lower than 15% of the reference price.
