Andrus Alber has dedicated a great part of his career, so far, to the Bank of Estonia. In 2000–2001 he was Economic Counsellor to the President of the Republic of Estonia; in 2001–2003 he was Advisor to the Executive Director for the Nordic-Baltic Constituency of the IMF. Before his election as the Chairman of the Management Board of the Tallinn Stock Exchange, Alber worked as Advisor to the President of the Bank of Estonia.
“A stock exchange is the symbol of an independent and economically developed state and it is a good indicator of the status of businesses at any point in time. The position of stock exchange manager is certainly an honourable challenge,” said Alber. Based on his international experience, Alber believes that the continued and rapid unification of the Baltic and Nordic securities markets in terms of both the stock exchanges, settlements and transfer organisations is important with a view to the development of the securities market. “The successful launch of the Alternative Market, the strength of the Estonian and Baltic investor education project, and involvement of the market participants in the development of the securities market through close cooperation are the most important short-term goals,” Alber added.
“These are interesting times in the securities markets – companies are involving additional capital for development purposes and investors’ opportunities are broadening. The state has an important role to play in ensuring the rapid development of the securities market – to modernise regulations, to list state owned enterprises, and to support the long-term investments of private individuals and the insurance of their future. With his long-term experience at the heart of the country’s economic policy, Andrus will certainly be able to contribute strength and speed to the core and development of the Baltic countries’ securities market,” said Kaidi Ruusalepp.
Former Chairman of the Management Board of the Tallinn Stock Exchange, Kaidi Ruusalepp, will remain a passive member of the management board until her return from parental leave.
