Estonian securities market in the first half of 2008

Within half a year, 31,468 stock exchange transactions were made on NASDAQ OMX Tallinn Stock Exchange, with an average value of 12,575 euros. The turnover of Tallinn Stock Exchange as of the end of June was 396 million euros. According to the turnover, the most frequently traded shares were those of Eesti Telekom, Tallinna Vesi and Tallink Group.

In the second quarter of this year, the debt securities of OÜ Manutent were listed on NASDAQ OMX Tallinn Stock Exchange. Two new stock exchange members were added: UAB Finhill and Ukio Bankas. Nordnet Bank ended trading on the Baltic stock exchanges. As a result of the supervision proceedings of the stock exchange, the listing and supervision committee imposed penalties on an issurer on two occasions for violating the rules of the stock exchange in the second quarter. For a delay in disclosing the annual report, AS Q Vara has to pay a contractual penalty in the amount of 3,195 euros (50,000 kroons) and AS Starman in the amount of 1,597 euros (25,000 kroons).

Since the beginning of the year, 33 new funds have been added to the fund centre, the number of funds joined to date totals 232. The website of the Fund Centre providing additional possibilities for investors and funds will be completed in the autumn of this year.

As of the end of June, the volume of investment funds registered with the Estonian Central Securities Depository is 488.8 million euros, of which the investments of individuals accounted for 111 million euros. A total of 14,470 individuals had invested in the funds as of the end of June.

Following the trend of recent years, investments in the funds of additional funded pension are continuing. The number of those investing in the third pillar funds has increased by more than a tenth this year, with 47,700 joined individuals as of the end of June.

As of the end of June, 6,704 companies were registered with the Estonian Central Securities Depository. The number of registered public limited companies is decreasing, having fallen to 4,973, while the registration of private limited companies is continuously growing, reaching 1,731. The value of securities registered with the Estonian Securities Depository totals more than 8.1 billion euros.
