27.03.2012 RIG

Riga, March 26, 2012 –NASDAQ OMX Riga, for the seventh year in succession, announces the competition for the best bachelor’s or master’s thesis addressing:
• Latvian and/or Baltic securities market related questions, or
• Corporate governance issues in Latvian companies.

The theses submitted for the competition will be evaluated in two rounds by a specially appointed Competition Commission, comprising representatives from NASDAQ OMX Riga, teaching staff from higher educational establishments, and industry professionals. The winner of the competition will receive a money prize of EUR 1000 (after tax).

„The objective of the competition is to incite the Latvian students’ interest in securities market and the opportunities it is offering to businesses and investors. We hope that the prize and the good example of the previous year’s winners will be an extra motivation for the students to carry out an in-depth research on securities market and the issues related to it,” says Liene Dubava, Chairman of the Competition Commission and Head of Issuer Services, NASDAQ OMX Baltic.

By October 1, 2012 the contestants are invited to submit their bachelor’s or master’s theses in economics that have been presented in the last quarter of 2011 or in 2012 on the topics related to the Latvian and/or Baltic securities market or the issues of corporate governance in the Latvian companies. The theses may be written in the Latvian or English language, and should have a score from the competitor’s higher educational establishment no lower than 7 points; the papers may not have been entered for any previous competitions organized by a Baltic stock exchange.

Daiga Grūbe, winner of the theses competition in 2011, whose master’s thesis on the topic of corporate governance in state-owned enterprises were recognized by the jury Competition Commission as the best and awarded with a grant of EUR 1000, encourages students to enter the competition: „I believe this competition to be an excellent chance to find out that all the effort, energy, resources and also the time input can be recognized also outside the university. I saw the participation in the competition of students’ theses, organized by NASDAQ OMX Riga, as an opportunity to receive an alternative, independent and unbiased evaluation of my paper. I hope that my performance will serve as an incentive and encouragement also to students undergoing also other programmes than economics and finance.”

To enter the competition, students have to deliver their bachelor’s or master’s theses to the Reception of NASDAQ OMX Riga at Vaļņu iela 1, Riga (2 hard copies in binding in decent computer printout plus a digital version on a CD or a memory stick), and supply details:
