NASDAQ OMX Riga awards Broker of the Year 2010 and Special Award 2010

21.01.2011 RIG

Riga, January 21,  2011 – As part of the Baltic Market Awards ceremony, last night NASDAQ OMX Riga awarded its traditional annual awards. Deniss Makedonskis from Latvijas Krājbanka was named Broker of the Year 2010, while Special Award 2010 went to Alminas Žaldokas, a lecturer from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.

Deniss Makedonskis, winner of the Broker of the Year 2010 title, was ranked number one in peer vote and was also appraised by the stock exchange Trading Department. Deniss has executed a considerable number of trades. This is already the 13th year when the stock exchange awards Broker of the Year. The prize is a challenge award, a statuette by artist Uldis Zariņš featuring a man standing tall, thus symbolizing growth and development.

Special Award 2010 went to Alminas Žaldokas, a lecturer from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga for his long-term contribution to building an understanding in the young students about the nuances and prospects of the Latvian and Baltic stock market. He has been tutoring several research papers that have won prizes at the annual theses contests organized by the stock exchange. The research papers headed by him, as a rule, deal with developments in the industry that have been seldom scrutinized, thus contributing to establishing a high quality research and analytical basis on the Baltic stock market. Special Award is for outstanding contribution to the Latvian securities market and its development, and was first given in 2000. Up to now, the recipients include bank and media representatives as well as companies and representatives from academic circles.
