Riga Stock Exchange awards the best capital market participants

08.12.2004 RIG

On Wednesday, December 8, the Riga Stock Exchange annual awards Broker of the Year, Contact Person of the Year and Stock Exchange Special Award were distributed. Traditionally, the awards go the best and pro-active market participants.

Broker of the Year 2004 went to Natālija Točelovska, a broker from “Parex banka”.
Gundega Vārpa from JSC “Ventspils nafta” was awarded with Contact Person of the Year 2004 – she also won the prize in 2003.

The main criteria for awarding with Broker of the Year is the number of deals, evaluation by the clients and other brokers, as well as research done on the capital market. The criteria for awarding with Contact Person of the Year is the amount and quality of the information disclosed to the market, as well as the issuer’s transparency to the investors and improvements during past year. Special Award is for outstanding contribution to the Latvian capital market development.
Special Award 2004 was given to Sten Sumberg from “Suprema” for initiation of the liquidity provider program. “Hansabanka” and “Parex banka” received special acknowledgements for implementation of and participation in the program.
Liquidity providers are the RSE members that are making market for certain equities, maintaining a specified trading volume and price spread. This gives additional comfort to the investors, because the market makers have the obligation to execute their orders at all times. The more market makers per equity, the more liquidity.

The prize is a statuette of a self-assured man and is a symbol of pursuit of achievement. The author is artist Uldis Zariņš.
