RSE announces a contest of bachelor thesis

31.10.2005 RIG

Riga Stock Exchange, in alliance with Latvian colleges and universities, announces a contest of bachelor thesis on topical issues in the Latvian capital market. The purpose of the contest is to encourage the students to do research on the Latvian capital market itself and the opportunities it is opening to the businesses, as well as to increase the awareness of the role of capital market in national economy.

The task of the participants is to write a bachelor thesis in economics. The papers (in the Latvian or English language) written both in academic years 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 are eligible. The winners will receive an award certificate and a money prize. The source of the prize pool is the revenues from sales of book ‘Vērtspapīru tirgus zinības” (a textbook on capital market issues).

The competition closes on July 1, 2006; the results will be announced in October of 2006. The jury includes representatives from the Riga Stock Exchange and leading Latvian universities and colleges.

Daiga Auziņa-Melalksne, Chairman of the Riga Stock Exchange Management Board, says: “We feel that our corporate social responsibility is to promote the education of the younger generation – the future businessmen and managers. It will be them who are the future drivers of the Latvian national economy. This is why we are proceeding with our Public Education Program: the textbook on capital market issues was published within the framework of this program; and its second edition will be released from print in December. We believe that the announced contest will serve as a good encouragement for students to become interested in the developments in the Latvian capital market”.
