10,7  m tonnes of crude oil and petroleum products delivered to the Oil

Terminal  of  Ventspils  Nafta,  JSC  by  railway were handled in 2003,

having  increased  thus  the total volume of railway cargoes handled by

the terminal by 4,3 m tonnes or 68%, when compared with 2002.

The throughput of gas oil handled by Ventspils Nafta Terminal increased

by  0,5  m tonnes, when compared with 2002, and made up of 5,5 m tonnes

in  2003;  3,3 m tonnes of crude oil the deliveries of which by railway

to  the  Terminal  started  only  at the end of 2002, and finally 1,9 m

tonnes  of  automobile  gasoline of various grades, the transhipment of

which in 2003 increased by 0,5 m tonnes when compared with 2002.

In   2003   the   Oil   Terminal   of  Ventspils  Nafta,  JSC  operated

uninterruptedly  thanks  to  its  high  level  of internal reserves and

possibilities, including a favourable situation of the ice-free port of

Ventspils  without taking into account any political and administrative

measures  that  stopped the export of crude oil by pipeline from Russia

in  to  the  direction  of  Ventspils.  Being  provided with up-to-date

equipment  and  modern  knowledge, the Terminal of Ventspils Nafta, JSC

enlarged  in  2003 the range of handled products and started to receive

railway deliveries of crude oil and gas oil with low sulpher content of

0,035%.

Striving  to  increase  and  attract  railway  cargoes  to the daughter

company of Ventspils Nafta, JSC - Ventspils Nafta Termināls, Ltd., that

from  October  2003, as a result of improvement of Ventspils Nafta, JSC

management  structure, took over a full responsibility for transhipment

of  crude  oil  and  petroleum products within the Holding of Ventspils

Nafta,  JSC,  the  construction of a new facility for unloading of rail

tank-cars has been commenced. As planned, it will be put into operation

in  the summer of 2004. The capacity of the new Unloading Facility will

make  up  of  4,5 m tonnes of crude oil, as well as 5,5 m tonnes of gas

oil per annum. It is also designed to unload 66 RTC simultaneously.
