"VENTLINES" - NEW FERRY LINE VENTSPILS - TRAVEMINDE

20.06.2003, Latvijas kuģniecība, RIG

On June 22, 2003 JSC Latvian Shipping Company (LSC) launches a new
ferry line "VentLines" between Ventspils and Traveminde. Running twice
a week according to the schedule, a Ro-Ro passenger ferry "Kaptan
Burhanettin Isim" (built in 1990 with cargo capacity of 1,800 lane
meters for cars and trailers and cabins for 120 passengers) will ensure
30-hour port-to-port transit.
"Considering favourable market conditions, formed by Traveminde's
geographical location (it is only 80 km away from Hamburg), tonnage
deficit currently prevailing in the market as well as economically
disadvantageous transportation of cargoes by land, we believe this
moment to be especially favourable for us to start the activity in this
market niche", stated Imants Vikmanis, LSC President.
The line will be operated by JSC Latvian Shipping Company, while the
agency services will be rendered by Latvian Finnish Maritime Agency.
