"Ventspils nafta" terminal in 2002

07.01.2003, Ventspils nafta, RIG

During the past year "Ventspils nafta" terminal has reloaded 13.8
million tons of oil and oil products, of this 7.5 million tons is crude
oil, 5 million tons is diesel oil and 1.3 million tons is petrol of
various brands.
In 2002 the company experienced a lot of external pressure, mainly due
to Russian monopoly Transņeftj administrative decisions to avoid
Ventspils and to use Primorsk terminal instead. Last year the
competition increased also due to launch of full capacity at Butinge,
while Tallinn port terminals expanded their business in the area of
reloading oil transported by rail. As a result, the volumes of crude
oil reloaded by Ventspils in 2002 reduced nearly by half if compared to
the 2001 volume, while the volume of reloaded oil products remained
stable. At the end of 2002 "Ventspils nafta" started to reload crude
oil transported by rail, and is planning to further develop the service
also this year. The company is continuing to attract new clients and is
analysing the possibility to introduce new services.
