JSC “Liepajas Metalurgs” information about signed contract with VOEST-ALPINE 



Within the scope of the global revamping of the steel-melting and rolling 

production operations the Chairman of the Council of the JSC “Liepajas Metalurgs” 

S. Zaharjin on the Christmas eve signed a contract with the Austrian company 

VOEST-ALPINE Industrieanlagenbau GmbH & Co for a preliminary engineering work 

related to the project revamping of the steel-melting shop and the construction 

a new rolling mill as well as initialled the technical specification for the 

necessary equipment required to be implemented during the execution of this project.

The revamping scope for the steel-melting shop foreseeds the erection of the 

electric arc furnace, the ladle-furnace, dedusting system and water treatment plant.

 The new rolling mill is intended for the production of wire rod in coils, bars 

and sections. The preliminary engineering is to be completed within seven months.

It took the working groups of Austrian, German, and Italian companies and 

JSC “Liepajas Metalurgs” one week to prepare all the necessary documents for 

signing of the preliminary engineering contract, which is so important for the 

whole Liepaja. 

Mr. Karl Veigl the Vice President Sales and Mr. Franz Holy the Managing Director 

being at the head of the expert group of VAI Fuchs and VAI  Pomini have signed 

the Contract on the behalf of Austrian, German and Italian companies.

The result of preliminary engineering implementation will serve as the financial 

and technical basis to continue the actual execution of the JSC “Liepajas 

Metalurgs” revamping project.
