As of end-March, 5394 public limited companies were operating in Estonia according to the Estonian CSD. During the 1st quarter, 30 new public limited companies were registered at the Estonian central securities register while the number of deleted companies was 34.
Among all investors holding shares registered at ECSD, 48% originated from Estonia, 30% from Sweden, 7% from Finland, 4% from UK and the same amount from US.
The number of voluntarily registered private limited companies grew by 25 during the quarter, which makes the total number of private limited companies at 333. Private companies with high capital as well as companies with foreign shareholders are main registrants in order to decrease operating risks.
The number of securities accounts having shares increased while the number of accounts having shares listed on stock exchange decreased during Q1. The market capitalisation of Estonian securities market was 106.3 billion EEK as at April 1.
Estonian CSD, part of HEX Tallinn, maintains the Estonian central securities registry, where all securities accounts as well as private limited companies are registered.
