RSE launches fund trading

26.03.2004 RIG

Starting with March 29, 2004, trading of fund units will be launched on the RSE. The first funds to be traded are the already listed open-end funds “Baltic Index fonds” and “Valsts obligāciju fonds”.The fund trading will be real-time. The system allows the trading both of open-end and closed-end funds. The funds may be LVL as well as USD or EUR denominated: starting with March 22, 2004, the Riga Stock Exchange and the Latvian Central Depository systems support automatic trading and settlement also in USD and EUR.
Daiga Auziņa-Melalksne, Director of Development and Services Department, RSE: “Since funds are a popular investment vehicle worldwide, we have introduced the service with the purpose to promote the development of investment funds in Latvia. Making funds tradable on the RSE increases the fund liquidity: now the investors are able to buy and sell fund units in a similar manner as shares and debt securities. This also facilitates settlement for investors.”
Hereafter there will be two types of funds on the RSE: listed funds and traded funds.
