Rahakompass fair had up to 3,500 visitors

Up to 3,500 people visited Rahakompass (Money Compass) fair held by the HEX Tallinn (TSE) and Eesti Päevaleht (Estonian Daily Newspaper) on October 4 and 5.

“Rahakompass fair has become an annual tradition,” Gert Tiivas, the CEO of HEX Tallinn said. “I am pleased to see that visitors of Rahakompass evolve with the event – this year’s visitors were more aware than in previous years, with specific interests and to the point questions.”

The aim of the event is to enhance today’s and future investors’ knowledge about benefits of saving and investing, done in co-operation with all market participants.

The fair gathered all major participants in the Estonian financial market (banks, brokerages, insurance companies, listed companies, media). Exponents included Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Estonia, HEX Tallinn (Tallinn Stock Exchange, Estonian CSD), Hansabank, Estonian Union Bank, Nordea Bank, Sampo Bank, investment banks LHV and Trigon Markets, Tax Board. Furthermore, library of listed companies was set up for investors to pick up relevant information. Other activities included Eesti Telefon internet café, special children’s room in co-operation with confectionery Kalev and Perekool.

The fair was accompanied with seminars and lectures given by well-known investment specialists and experts in the field. Discussion forums included topics such as funded pensions, how and why to become an investor, insiders, entrepreneurship possibilities in today’s Estonia and many others.

The most popular event during Rahakompass was “CEO hour”, where the presidents of largest listed companies presented their future vision of their companies after which all investors could directly ask questions from them.
br>Funded pension system got a lot of attention during the fair. Among numerous discussion forums on the pension topic, 100.000th person to join the funded pension system was given an award from HEX Tallinn at the fair.

Significantly more people than expected took part in Rahakool (Money School), a short course on investing for beginners, although this was the only fee-charging event.

As a special attraction, all visitors of Rahakompass 2002 had a chance to try out trading in stocks in a “broker game”, done in co-operation with MicroLink. The exchange’s trading system is used in the broker game.

Public recording of a special edition of popular TV quiz show “Kuldvillak” (“Jeopardy!”) took place during the fair.
